I don’t know what hunger means. I stay hungry only if I am forced to fast owing to religious responsibilities or I consciously stay hungry in the futile attempt to lose weight, lovingly known as dieting.
Yes, I admit, I don’t know what hunger means and I am sure all those reading this post also don’t know what hunger is. You might have seen emotionally charged scenes from Bollywood movies where a child dressed in tattered clothes steals a piece of bread from a shop and gets beaten up while he keeps crying throughout that he is hungry and it is just a piece of bread. And you feel a lump in your throat imaging the pathos of the child or you shout, “arrey chori kyon karta hai, kuch kaam kar le” (why are you stealing, do some work and earn money). Well, the movie is a hit and you move on.
However, the truth remains that there are many children who are hungry as we speak. Also, tell me one thing when you are hungry (temporarily and out of conscious choice) can you concentrate on other tasks. Don’t you keep thinking of the food that you are going to eat once the fast ends or the dieting period gets over?
It is much easier to preach sitting on your comfy recliner and way harder to roam on the streets under the scorching sun with an empty stomach. Think about it. I know you are the Logical Indian with good imagination. Put yourself in their shoes and think what if you were like that in your childhood. Would you have made till here if you had to struggle to get food, a basic requirement that you took for granted. Remember about those days in your childhood and even now when you crib about food. Cribbing over food is a far-fetched dream for them. They don’t get even two square meals a day.
Well, enough of preaching. I am sure all of you do empathize with the cause but there is a big gap between empathy and action.
I would request all of you through this post,
Act Now. Do something. Get Involved. Start small.
Akshay Patra Foundation is doing commendable work in bringing food to the hungry kids and thereby bringing those kids to school. Ek teer se do shikar (using one arrow to kill to enemies) – Hunger and Illiteracy. Isn’t it great?
They have many ways wherein you can connect and contribute to this cause. They just don’t want your money. You can write a post, like I am doing and feed a child for a year.
I am feeling very happy writing this post. I have done my bit, have you?
This post is written under an initiative I am going to #BlogToFeedAChild with Akshaya Patra and BlogAdda.

I think this is a wonderful initiative to help eradicate hunger… I have been looking for more organisations which would help solve the hunger issues mainly in india… And I was successful in finding this organisation which collects excess food from restaurants, canteens and parties and gives it to the needy. You can also contact them and donate food like i have been doing for the past 3 months… See if you can give it a push on the blog.
