Europe is notoriously diverse, historic, and packed with numerous different cultures. There’s so much to see and do, more so than any other continent in the world, and especially in all of the various cities.
Each one different to the next, I’ve rounded up the top five most beautiful European cities which should be on everyone’s travel bucket list.
Paris, France
Well, I couldn’t do this list without including the city of love, could I?
Romance and history come hand-in-hand in the French capital, where you can explore the cobbled streets, sit and watch the world go by in a café, sip on champagne in a chic bar, and see the sights all in the same weekend. Hot spots include the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, and the River Seine, so take your time exploring, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy a croissant or two along the way.
London, UK
A whopping 19.8m tourists flocked to London in 2017, and with its bustling city vibes, English charm, and royal history, it’s no surprise really!
Although ‘beautiful’ may not be the first word that springs to mind to describe such a big city, there’s so much London has to offer. Explore off the beaten track to find even more picturesque hotspots, aside from the main parks and royal palaces. Enjoy beautiful restaurants, winding side-streets, river-side cafes, and of course, English pubs.
Venice, Italy
Italy is overflowing with beautiful cities, but Venice surely has to be one of the best.
This canal-focused city benefits from hidden streets, large piazzas, and museums a-plenty. Sit back and sip on a cold glass of wine whilst people-watching in one of the squares, hop on board a gondola and do as the other tourists do, and stuff yourself silly with pizza and pasta in one of the many rustic canal side restaurants.
Bruges, Belgium
Ever seen In Bruges? This classic movie nails the city’s gothic charm just bang on the head. And if you’ve never been before, it’s certainly one to add to the list (preferably in the colder months for maximum impact).
The whole city eludes something out of a fairy-tale, with cobbled streets, old Gothic architecture. Sit in The Market (aka the old square), enjoy the wonder of this well-preserved city, order some waffles, and just soak up the charm of the place.
Bern, Switzerland
Not just the political centre of the country (which doesn’t sound very appealing), this stunning getaway is built on the Aare River and boasts amazing views from wherever you are. The architecture resembles traditional Swiss style, with turrets, red roofs, and medieval-style houses.
The Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and there’s also a beautiful cathedral and clock tower to enjoy on the way. Visit in the spring or autumn, when the country comes into bloom and looks even more picture-perfect.
