Chapter 16 – The Horrendous Impact of Road Rage

The situation was now getting dangerous. They were 5 men in the car. While one was driving, four were actively engaged in abusing them. Tanvi took out her mobile and started to shoot a video. Social media is quite strong these days and is really effective in shaming such people and road rage nuisance. Though it was dark but atleast the video was able to capture something. She also tried hard to take down the car’s number which was properly visible only when the car crossed a streetlight.

On seeing this, the men in the car got crazy and turned their target focus towards Tanvi; hurling sexual comments at her. Then they stopped the car with a sudden brake. Dalbir not expecting them to stop rammed his jeep into the car with such force that it crashed the backlight and sunk the left side of the car inside. All of them except the one who was driving got down and dragged Dalbir out. They circled around Dalbir and started punching him. Tanvi was shouting for help. She was scared and tried to dial a number on her mobile to call for help, when one of the men started running towards her. He held Tanvi by her hair and slapped her so hard that blood dripped from the side of her lower right lip.

Tanvi gathered all her strength and to free herself from his clutch, digged her teeth on his hand and bit him hard. The guy was taken by surprise as he wasn’t expecting resistance from a vulnerable looking girl. He clenched his fist his pain while releasing Tanvi from his grip. Tanvi franatically started running on the other side. The man followed her. His male ego was so hurt seeing Tanvi hit him back and now run away that he picked up a beer bottle and aimed at her. The bottle hit her arm and it started to bleed profusely.

Somewhere in distance a police siren was heard. The men looked at each other, hurriedly got into the car and sped away, leaving Dalbir and Tanvi bleeding. Police gave them first aid, registered their complaint and offered to drop them at their residence.

Tanvi was shaken. She was cold and shivering. Major Dalbir held her tightly in his arms and shouted almost in her ears,” You are absolutely fine now, you are safe”. Tanvi began to howl holding Dalbir so tight that her nails dug into his upper arm and his shirt was wet with tears and blood.

Tanvi was prescribed sleeping pills apart from painkillers to help her calm down and sleep. The incidents were reeling into her mind like a movie put on continuous forward and rewind. However, it is also in such extreme situations that you drop your inhibitions and express true emotions. Tanvi didn’t let go off Dalbir’s hand that night.

Tanvi took some time to recover from this incident. Though her physical wounds had healed, it was the soul that was difficult to heal. Such violent incident tear you up from inside and make you think what would have happened if?

She was also constantly reminded of Moumita. Somewhere, the pain connected them together. She could feel the pain Moumita must have undergone. Tanvi was lucky to survive.

Major Dalbir’s family took great care of Tanvi. They also used their connections to nab the culprits who turned out to be some rich businessmen’s brat sons.

Surviving together such a grotesque episode of life not only brings two people together but also creates a unique kind of bonding. Tanvi and Dalbir spent a lot of time together. There is always a silver lining!
