I have been to Mahabalipuram umpteen numbers of times but this time when I stayed at Chariot Beach Resorts, I fell in love with this heritage city of Mahabalipuram, all over again. The catamaran ride, fun activities, meeting with a celebrity and sea facing romantic suite; the Chariot Beach Resorts surely knows how to pamper a guest.
1. Epic Catamaran Ride
Experience of sea is incomplete without a catamaran ride. As we reach the beach at the crack of dawn there is a small open boat with motor in the tail waiting for us. It was efficiently handled by two seasoned operators. The operators introduced themselves as fishermen turned tour operators. After all, Catamaran is best handled by a fisherman. The boat was articulated as close as possible to the beach to enable us to hop on to it. This was not an easy task for few as the boat was rocking on high tide. In a minute we were in the open sea and with sun slowly rising up the horizon, it was a sight to behold. We started sailing towards the shore temple and the view were getting brilliant with outline of shore and the monument. The operator gave us a history glimpse of Mahabalipuram shore temple which were 7 in total and over time 6 of them submerged in the deep while the last and existing one was seen. The purpose of catamaran ride was to explore the submerged temples.
All eyes were transfixed at the blue sea when suddenly the operator shouted to look left and there it was – breaking the waves the shikahara of the submerged temple. The moment was epic; it felt as if I was instantly connected with the Pallavas, the creator of these temples. The operator said people had seen the complete temple when the water had receded during the unfortunate Tsunami incident. From there we started our way back and as we sat lazily in the boat, there were fishermen with their nets carrying out daily routine. The entire ride lasted for a little over an hour but the feel of the rocking boat and the sight of submerged temple lingered on.
2. Plethora Of Fun Activities
I am sure you will agree that if your kid is sorted and busy that is the best time for a parent. Chariot beach resorts offered so many activities that not only my 4 year old kid but even I was super sorted. Swimming pool, kid’s play area, Burma bridge, ATVs, horse riding at the beach, bonfire, Dj and, so much more.
However, my most favourite activity while at this resort was the Ayurveda spa massage J From the massage room, I could enjoy the panoramic views of the sea, the sounds of waves crashing at the beach and gentle sun falling at the window. Relaxing and soulful! The Ayurveda Spa at Chariot Beach Resorts is a must-do activity.
They also arranged for a guided and curated Mahablipuram trail for an informative visit to the Shore Temple, Arjuna’s penance, Krishna’s butterball, lighthouse and local market. It was a lovely heritage trail that presented the UNESCO world heritage site justifiably.
3. Meeting A Celebrity
And, I met the dashing Keith & sizzling Rochelle while sipping filter coffee at their Kapi restaurant. I was excited and like a star eyed fan grinned and requested for a selfie. I was later told by the hotel manager that celebrities frequent the place.
4. Sea facing Rooms At Chariot Beach Resorts
The sea-facing suite with view of the beach, sea and sky in one frame is heavenly. Huge, green, manicured garden with two lounge chairs was our coffee spot for the next two days. The room was spacious with full length windows giving an expansive feel. It was as if the room merged into the sea at the horizon. I was in love with the room. Sitting at the couch, placed adjacent to the French windows, looking at the sea, I felt a sense of calm and love. You can sit there for hours doing nothing, thinking nothing and this is something that no money can buy.
5. Homely Ambiance & Personalized Care
When at Chariot beach resort it seemed that I was staying at a friend’s place just that his house was way bigger and better. The warmth that the people exuded around was contagious, to say the least. They have innovative and out of the box services to warm your heart. Once a day the cart full of fresh coconut arrives in front of your rooms, refreshing coconut water is cut and offered, right there at your doorstep.
For evening tea and snack time, traditional dress clad young man served hot tea and filter coffee from the aesthetically designed shack alongwith Soth Indian styled hot pakodas sizzling out of the kadhai right in front of you.
